# Think beyond the text
When reading it is more important for us to contextualize the information than it is for us to memorize it. You need to think about how the text you are reading could/can be applied and what it means, why it happened, how does it work. This can even be applied to texts as dry as regulations. If you read VFR pilots need to maintain 3 statute miles visibility, it is important to understand why (maybe average plane speeds allow for better reaction time, etc... I don't know, go figure it out for yourself) instead of arbitrarily memorizing for a test, because it might just save your life.
