# Chinese Focus on Spacepower
China has a focus to dominate space in order to support their global empire, and with trillions in resources, energy, and unlimited area their vision has an opportunity to become a reality. They are focused in three areas; geography (an area that can be owned and controlled), legitimacy (view of space as forum for leadership and international affirmation), and economy. They aim to setup moon bases, space-based solar power, and asteroid mining in order to reduce the position of the US and become the new hegemon through legitimacy[^2].
China has planned its space activities very carefully, releasing space exploration plans every five years (2000, 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2022). This incredible space development in the last two decades made China the closest competitor of the US for leadership in space. China followed the U.S., with government spending on space programs surpassing Russia for the very first time in 2021[^1].
